Panaji, May 4 (UNI) Former top cop Julio Rebeiro has favoured formation of apolitical peace committees at taluk and ward levels, involving all communities, for ensuring peace at all mohallas in Goa.
Addressing the bureaucrats, social organisations, activists and policemen at the state secretariat here, Mr Rebeiro said such committees involving people without political ambitions could promote communal harmony.
Speaking on the occasion, Goa's Chief Secretary said the government had initiated steps to maintain peace and communal harmony in the wake of the first ever Curchorem-Sanvordem communal conflagration in South Goa last February.
Justice Alban Couto favoured conduct of football tournaments for peace in Goa on the lines of the matches held in Mumbai.
Prominent among those present included former IFS officer Allen Nazareth and the state DGP Neeraj Kumar.
