CFD seeks President's intervention

Kohima, May 04 : The Christian Forum of Dimapur (CFD), comprising of all the Christian Churches of Dimapur, has sought the intervention of President of India in order to ensure that a Bill that violates the fundamental rights and Indian Constitution does not become a law. In a representation to the President of India signed by CFD Chairperson Rev.L.Bizo, it pointed out that the Rajasthan Dharam Swatantrya Bill, 2006 is constitutionally invalid as it seeks to restrict the right to freedom of religion on the grounds of law and order and also forbids the citizens to propagate their religion, which is a constitutional right.

It negates the right of an individual to accept another faith, which is a fundamental right and the bill is intended to protect only the rights of the community from which an individual wants to accept another faith, the CFD said.

Asserting that the Christian community has done pioneering works in the field of education and health care by which the poor of India have gained self-respect and identity, the CFD said a bill of this nature is an effort to intimidate and restrict the freedom of the Christian community.
