BJP cancels remaining 'Bharat Suraksha Yatras'
New Delhi, May 4: The BJP today cancelled the remaining part of 'Bharat Suraksha Yatras' undertaken simultaneously by senior leader L K Advani and party president Rajnath Singh following the demise of party General Secretary Pramod Mahajan at Mumbai yesterday.
The 'yatras' of the two leaders were to recommence from May 5 and 6 to pass through the states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana before its conclusion on May 10 at Delhi. Consequently, the 'Delhi rally' has also been cancelled, an official release said.
Mr Advani had commenced his 'yatra' from Rajkot to traverse the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Mr Singh, who started his 'yatra' from Jagannath Puri in Orissa, passed through Jharkhand, Bihar, UP, Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.
Both the leaders took a break from their respective 'yatras' after Mahajan was shot at on May 22 to call him at the Hinduja Hospital.
Mr Advani had announced the simultaneous 'yatra' following the explosions at the Sankat Mochan temple at Varanasi.
Earlier, the senior party leader's three-day Karnataka visit was put off due to the death of noted Kannada cine star Rajkumar at Bangalore.
