Govt suspends six policemen

Farrukhabad/Lucknow, May 3 : Taking serious note of gross indiscipline in which the subordinate officers manhandled the District Police Chief of Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh government today suspended six policemen including one inspector and two sub-inspectors.

Superintendent of Police of Kannuaj Prashant Kumar has been asked to conduct an inquiry into the incident, Mr Rizwan Ahamad, Inspector General of Police Kanpur Zone told UNI over phone.

In the incident which occurred yesterday, Kotwati incharge Narsingh Pal Singh, two SIs Anand Kumar Singh and Rajesh Kumar along with three constables beat up SP of Farrukhabad Rahul Asthana at the latter's camp office.

First Information Reports (FIRs) have been lodged from both the sides in this connection, Mr Ahmad said. He said the incident was very unfortunate and an example of gross indiscipline by uniformed persons.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of Kanpur range Daljit Singh Chaudhry has rushed to Farrukhabad to take account of the incident.

Mr Rahul Asthana, who is already under transfer from Farrukhabad, said that the attack on him was unprovoked. ''They attacked me during an official meeting in my camp office in the presence of the Circle Officer Pratap Singh Yadav, Station Officer of Shamshabad Satya Pal Singh Yadav and my PRO,'' he said.
