Tomar sent to 15-hr police custody

Meerut, May 3 (UNI) A local court today sent the main accused in the devastating Meerut fire, Lakhan Tomar to 15-hour police custody tomorrow.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Jayshankar Mishra after hearing the case ordered to send Tomar to police custody tomorrow from eight o'clock in the morning till 11 at night.

The Deputy Police Commissioner, who is incharge of the case, had filed a petition in the court on April 29 seeking police custody of Tomar, after he was sent to 14-day judicial custody on April 27.

Agreeing to follow the Human Rights code in the case, the court also allowed to stay Tomar's counsel with him.

During his custody, police will try to obtain important documents from him pertaining the incident .

Earlier, apart fron Lakhan, two more accused in the incident Asit Gupta and Siddharth Manohar had been sent to 14-day judicial custody after their arrest.

Senior police official Navneet Sikera today said as Lakhan was the prime accused in the case, so only he was being sent to the police custody.

On May 10 a major inferno at the Victoria park claimed the lives of 58 people and injured as many as 67 during a 5-day consumer brand fair here.

Of these 67 injured, 36 are undergoing treatment at Meerut and other 31 at various hospitals in Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad.
