Speaker fixes May 8 in MLAs disqualification case

Lucknow, May 3 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh speaker Mata Prasad Pandey today fixed May 8 as the next date of hearing in BSP MLAs disqualification case following the request of the five legislators, who had rejoined the BSP on March 1, 2006.

The five MLAs -- Jaiveer Singh, Surendra Vikram Singh, Dharampal, Ramji Shukla and Ramkrishna -- rejoined the BSP leaving the ruling Samajwadi Party on March 1, 2006 after the Allahabad High Court quashed the speaker's earlier ruling of split and merger on February 28.

They are opposing notices served to them by the speaker to disqualify them from the house for defying the LBD whip during the just concluded Rajya Sabha polls.

During yesterday's hearing, the MLAs had claimed Loktrantrik Bahujan Dal (LBD) was a non-existant outfit as the speaker was yet to recognise it.

In today's hearing, they asked for adjournment as their counsel was 'busy' with another case in the High Court.
