Mahajan's condition kept deteriorating fast

Mumbai, May 3 (UNI) Following is the chronology of events in Pramad Mahajan's life after he was shot at by his sibling on April 22.

April 22: Mahajan greviously wounded after being shot three times by younger brother Praveen. Undergoes four-hour surgery at Hinduja hospital. Bullets said to have shattered liver, head of pancreas and small intenstine, as well as ruptured the inferior vena cava vein (IVC) in the abdomen.

April 23: Mahajan's vital parameters unstable since evening even after doctors perform second emergency surgery to manage his poorly functioning kidneys, replace packs to stop bleeding from his liver and drain out fluids and toxins from his abdomen.

April 24: Condition remains critical. Remains on ventilator, dialysis and medication to support blood pressure.

April 25: Mahajan remains in coma, condition shows no improvement.

Surgery ruled out as doctors say he has yet to respond to present treatment.

April 26: Mahajan's condition continues to be critical but stable.

April 27: Mahajan's condition continues to be critical but stable.

Medicine to reduce blood pressure not reduced further.

April 28: Slight setback in Mahajan's condition with his dependence on ventilation and drugs to support blood pressure increasing marginally. Doctors remove fluids from his chest. Undergoes CT scan, which shows one bullet each lodged in the muscles and tissue of his back, while the third embedded in the thoracic vertebra but had not crossed into the spinal canal Continues on ventilator and dialysis.

April 29: A team of Indian and British surgeons conduct third surgery on Mahajan, clean up abdomen and infections and insert pipes for internal feeding and breathing to prepare him for long-term treatment. Hospital says he tolerated the surgery well and may require more in the future. Liver injury said to be contained.

April 30: Mahajan's condition still posted as critical. Doses of medicines to control blood pressure again reduced.

May 1: Condition deteriorates as Mahajan develops Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) . Condition remains critical, as continues on multiple organ support in the form of mechnical ventitation, vasopressor therapy and continuous renal replacement therapy (dialysis).

May 2: Mahajan's condition remains critical as doctors report no improvement in ARDS. Continues on multiple life support systems.

May 3: Condition further deteriorates. Declared dead at 1610 hrs.
