Bangalore, May 3 (UNI) Karnataka Governor T N Chaturvedi and Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today expressed shock and profound grief over the demise of Bharatiya Janata Party senior leader Pramod Mahajan.
In a condolence message here, the Governor said ''In Mr Mahajan's death, the public life of the country has lost a statesman, parliamentarian and a social worker of immense promise. He was a remarkable organiser who could enthuse workers and evoke their loyalty to no end. He never shied away in life from any struggle. He struggled for life to the last, but destiny willed it otherwise.
''Though a senior and prominent member of the BJP, his popularity, personal as well as social relantionships, transcended all political differences. Always cheerful, he was full of bonhomie and had an attitude of friendliness towards each and everybody. He had endeared himself to all sections in society, economy and polity,'' he added.
Mr Chaturvedi expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members.
In his message, Mr Kumaraswamy described Mr Mahajan as a promising leader who had inspired the younger generation. He was a great organiser and possessed exceptional leadership qualities, he said.
In his death, the country had lost a prominent and upcoming leader, he added.
He said ''I pray the almighty to provide enough strength to the bereaved family to sustain the loss.'' Senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly N Dharam Singh, in his message, said Mr Mahajan's death had created a vaccum in Indian politics. ''It was great loss to the BJP in particular,'' he noted.
He described Mr Mahajan as a dynamic and youthful leader with an immense talent to handle complicated political issues.
BJP leader and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Govind Karjol, BJP State President Basanagouda Patil and Mr Ramesh Jigajinagi, BJP MP from Chikkodi, were among others who condoled the death of Mr Mahajan.
