Earthquake measuring 8 hits Tonga area

LONDON, May 3 (Reuters) An earthquake measuring eight hit the Tonga area off the eastern coast of Australia, the USGS Web site said today.

The earthquake was at 2056 hrs (IST), said the Web site monitored in London. It was not clear what damage it had caused.
