Campaign tempo picks up in Pondy

Pondicherry, May 3 (UNI) With just five more days left for the second phase of elections in the union territory, campaigning has picked up, with political stalwarts doing their best to woo voters.

AICC President Sonia Gandhi, AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa, BJP President Rajnath Singh and MDMK Leader Vaiko had already campaigned in the territory and more leaders are expected to visit Pondicherry in the next couple of days in a last ditch effort to shore up the fortunes of their candidates.

Local leaders were continuing their campaign. Chief Minister N Rangasamy, who hitherto concentrated on his Thattanchavady constituency, kicked off his campaign from Kalapet.

Seeking mandate for the Congress and its allies, Mr Rangasamy called upon the people to reflect on the performance of his government during the last five years and give another chance to ensure further development of the union territory.
