Army convoy attacked in Kashmir

Written by: Staff

Srinagar, Apr 30: An Army convoy on its way from here to Jammu was ambushed by militants at Khanabal in south Kashmir's Anantnag district this morning, official sources said.

Defence spokesman Lt Col V K Batra told UNI that gunfight erupted between militants and the Army's area domination patrol at Khanabal this morning.

He said the attack was not on the Army convoy as it had crossed the area before the gunbattle erupted.

Col Batra said there were no casualties in the gunfight.

The militants managed to escape taking advantage of the situation as the place was highly crowded and civilian vehicles were moving on the road, he added.

''The operation is over,'' Col Batra said.
