'Zahira Sheikh being provided with medicines'
Mumbai, Apr 28: Byculla Jail Superintendent A Kamble today told special court of Additional Sessions Judge Abhay Thipsay that Zahira Sheikh, the prime witness in the Best Bakery case of Gujarat serving a one-year prison term, is being provided with medicines as prescribed by the doctors.
Summoned by Mr Thipsay on the complaint by Zahira that she was not being provided medicines, Mr Kamble told the court today that every Wednesday, a team of doctors from state-run J J hospital visit the Byculla prison and examine prisoners. ''Based on their advice, we provide medicines to the inmates,'' he added.
He further said that Zahira Sheikh was also taken to the J J Hospital for a medical check-up.
Judge Thipsay then asked the jail superitendent to give proper treatement to prisoners and provide medicines as per the prescription.
Zahira is serving the one-year sentence, which was handed down by the Supreme Court on March 8 for contempt of court.
