Yechury meets SPA leaders
Kathmadu, Apr 28 (UNI) CPI (M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury today said there were indications that Maoists could renounce violence and join the democratic political mainstream.
''Participation in democratic processes means no use of arms to achieve political objectives. We have always urged Maoists to enter the political process...how they do that has to be decided between them and the mainstream political leaders,'' he told reporters here.
Mr Yechury, who arrived here today, said, ''A new political mainstream was represented by the restoration of Parliament which was the result of peoples upsurge.'' ''How this new political mainstream unfolds remains to be seen but we feel that Maoists should participate in this,'' he added.
Mr Yechury, who met leaders of different political parties constituting the SPA, said, ''We feel there are indications that they (Maoists) are ready to enter the mainstream and they have been giving correct signals.'' He is accompanied by NCP general secretary D P Tripathi.
