UDF has influence in people's minds: Antony

Kannur, Kerala, Apr 28 (UNI) Congress Working Committee (CWC) member A K Antony today said the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has gained influence in the minds of people of the State.

Participating in a meet-the-press programme here, Mr Antony said the UDF would get impartial votes in the coming elections.

He said the UDF victory in the State would guarantee the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government's stability at the Centre. He said the people of Kerala wanted the UPA Government to continue and for that UDF victory in the State was very essential.

He said the UDF would not be weakened by the bad propaganda by CPI(M) leaders. He alleged that CPI(M) leaders for the last five years had created many obstacles to prevent development in the State. They were totally against the State's development.

He said the UDF Government had taken up several welfare schemes for the development of the Malabar region. He said in view of the efforts by the UDF Government, Kannur had become peaceful now. The Adivasi land issue was solved.

He said regarding the agriculture sector, there were tears in the eyes of farmers during the LDF regime. Now there was happiness as so much growth had taken place in the sector. Agriculture produce except tea and pepper was fetching good prices. It was important the UDF should return to power for the sake of peace in the Malabar region and further development of the State in all fronts.

Regarding the Marad incident, he claimed that the UDF Government had succeeded in controlling the situation in Marad after the massacre there on May two, 2003. The UDF Government's determination and impartial stand helped restore peace in Marad.

On infrastructure like electricity, water and transport, he said Kerala's performance was far better and number one in South India.
