Student body against sending troops to Chhatisgarh

Aizawl, Apr 28 (UNI) The Mizo Zirlai Pawl(MZP), the state's apex student's body, here has urged Home Minister Tawnluia to stop sending Mizoram's 2nd IR Battalion troop to Chhattisgarh to fight Moaist naxalites.

The students said today the state cannot spare any of its police force as it has trouble on its home front battling the Bru insurgents, who are very active in the Western belt of the state.

Another reason given by the students was that many crimes, such as bomb explosions, murders as well as the boundary trouble in Bairabi with neigbouring Assam has been a source of uneasiness for the people as a result of which any deployment of police outside the state could create not only panic in the public, but also sense of insecurity.

Pointing out that they are fanatics, the MZP said the IR battalion that had been trained in Mizoram would be no match for the Naxalities.

''If the state government insists in sending our troops, who were not trained to deal with fanatics, we would be welcoming back many dead heroes'', the MZP underlined.

The student body further said keeping the reasons in the mind, the process being undertaken by the government to send the second IR battalion to Chhatisgarh be stopped immediately.
