Singh worried about AIDS in state

Imphal, Apr 28 (UNI) Chief Minister of Manipur Okram Ibobi Singh today said AIDS has become a threat to mankind.

Addressing an advocacy meeting on HIV/AIDS at the Congress office organised by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, Mr Singh said earlier hiv/aids was concentrated in the valley areas and Churachandpur district.

The government was committed to fighting against the menace and the spread of the diseased was checked. He, however, said at Ukhrul district the AIDS prevalence has increased and all were shocked when it was found that four per cent of the pregnant women were tested positive.

"The situation has changed and it is grim for Indians as many countries have resorted to medical check for every Indians at the every airport when they get down from the aeroplane," Mr Singh added.

The government will work on a war footing to check the spread of the disease, he further said. He further said no family should hide if any of the family members were found to be HIV positive.

Health Minister L Nandakumar, Congress President Gaikhangam and other experts addressed Congress workers on the issues related to HIV/AIDS.
