Shanties on fire in Shakarpur
New Delhi, Apr 28 (UNI) Shanty dwellers in Shakarpur area of East Delhi allegedly set fire to their hutments this morning in 'protest' against an official drive, as per court order, to remove 'jhuggies' along the Yamuna riverbed in the national capital.
Jhuggi dwellers, after vacating bag and baggage, set fire to their empty huts at around 1130 hrs, fire brigade said.
As many as 15 tenders had been rushed to the spot to fight the blaze that spread quickly, and more were being readied.
There were no reports of any injuries.
Another fire was reported from Kapashera area in South West Delhi.
Juck godown caught fire at around 1115 hrs and the fire spread to nearby shanties.
Nine tenders were sent to the site and the blaze had been brought under control.
There were no reports of any injuries here too.
Yesterday, a private CNG bus, plying under Delhi Tranport Corp, had caught fire in Patel Nagar area of West Delhi. The passengers had safely got out and the fire was put out quickly.
