SC dismisses PIL for mandatory AIDS test for couples
New Delhi, Apr 28 (UNI) The Supreme Court today dismissed a PIL seeking directions from the apex court to the government to make it mandatory for every couple intending to get married to undergo AIDS test.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Y.K. Sabharwal and Mr. Justice C.K. Thakker dismissed the petition saying that such directions could not be issued by the court.
Earlier counsel for the petitioner has pleaded that such directions were necessary as it would ensure that chilren born out of wedlock did not have the draded disease by birth as it is hereditary.
