Reservoirs witness improved water storage conditions
New Delhi, Apr 28 (UNI) The combined live storage position in 76 important reservoirs in the country stands at 29 per cent of the designed capacity during April compared to 13 per cent during 2005.
The storage in 19 of these reservoirs monitored by the Central Water Commission (CWC) was 80 per cent less than the previous 10 years average. The CWC will be in touch with the Agriculture ministry and share information so that it could formulate its cropping strategies.
The basinwise storage position as on April 21 was better than last 10 year average in Indus, Narmada, Tapi, Mahi, Sabarmati, Rivers of Kutch, Godavari, Krishna, Mahanadi and other east flowing rivers, along with Cauvery. However Ganges had less than 80 per cent of 10 years average, an official statement said.
