MLC elections from local bodies for six seats on May 26
Mumbai, Apr 28 (UNI) The biennial elections to six seats of Maharashtra Legislative Council from the Local Bodies constituencies will be held on May 26.
Talking to reporters here this evening, Chief Electoral Officer U P S Madan said the notification for the biennial elections would be issued on May two.
The last date of filing of nominations is May nine, scrutiny of papers will be held on May ten, last date of withdrawal is May 12.
Polling will be held on May 26 between 0800 hrs and 1600 hrs and counting of votes will be taken up on May 29.
The six retiring members are Anant Tare (Raigad-Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg) of Shiv Sena, Dr Vasant Pawar (Nashik) and Ramdas Tadas (Wardha-Chandrapur-Gadchiroli) of NCP, Suresh Deshmukh (Parbhani-Hingoli) from Congress, Jagdish Gupta (Amravati) who is a BJP-supported Independent and Dilip Deshmukh (Osmanabad-Latur-Beed) of Congress who is brother of Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.
Mr Madan said the elections are not by open ballot and there is no election code of conduct for Legislative council biennial elections.
