Maharashtra vision 2010 to be organised by MEDC

Mumbai, Apr 28 (UNI) The Maharashtra Economic Development Council (MEDC) is organising a two-day international business conference ''Maharashtra vision 2010: strategies and action'', here from May 4 in association with the state government.

Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh will inaugurate the conference while valedictory address will be delivered by Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Praful Patel, said MEDC President M N Chaini while talking to newspersons here today.

Mr Chaini said currently the per capita income in Maharashtra is Rs 32,000 and it is expected that the development in the next 15 years would go to such extent that all the people in the state would become millionaires.

He said special orations will also be delivered by World Bank country director Michael Carter, MP Suresh Prabhu and Chairman Knowledge Commission Sam Pitroda.

The conference would cover various sectors including energy, security, agriculture, Mumbai as growth-driver, SEZ, information technology, civil aviation and tourism, he added. Key minister from state government are expected to grace the conference.

Senior government officials will outline and existing policy-framework for the respective sectors, he said.

Prominent speakers at the conference include Jignesh Shah, Swati Pirimal, Shahi Ruia, Nasser Munjee, Arun Nanda, Madhur Bajaj, Jeh Wadia, Ravi Pandit, Dr Balaji Tambe, C B Bhave, among others.

The principal objectives of the conference include to request the government to present her report card to the delegates and investors, in term of the ''vision'' for the specific sector.

The conference would also elicit considered response form business and industry on the policy framework, and focus on the recommendations for policy-change.

It will also facilitate the generation of a time-bound and strateic action-plan through the evolution of a workable public-private-partnership (PPP) model, to attain the desired Maharashtra Vision 2010.
