JSU asks govt to remove officials serving beyond time

Shillong, Apr 28 (UNI) The Jaintia Students Union (JSU) and all the NGOs of the Jaintia Hills district today issued a one-week ultimatum to the state government to remove all the government officials serving beyond their stipulated tenure.

A delegation of JSU and several NGOs made the demand during a meeting with Chief Minister D D Lapang here.

The demand came after former state Chief Secretary Mr P J Bazeley declined to accept the post of Meghalaya Electricity Board (MeSEB) Chairman in the face of stiff opposition from the Khasi Students Union (KSU).

''Since the government failed to retain Mr Bazeley as the Chairman of the MeSEB, we demand that all the retired employees who are still serving under the government should be removed from their respective posts and services immediately,'' the organisations said in a memorandum to the Chief Minister.

The organisations have set a one-week deadline to fulfill their demand, failing which they have warned to undertake 'drastic measures that will affect the whole state'.

''We shall not withdraw until and unless our demands are fulfilled,'' they said.
