Indo-US agreements 'misleading': Joshi

Patna, Apr 28 (UNI) Senior BJP leader Dr Murli Manohar Joshi today said the Indo-US agriculture and nuclear agreements are 'misleading' and the BJP will raise the issue in the next session of Parliament to seek explanation from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Mr Joshi told reporters here that both the agreements would affect the security and sovereignty of the country as America's intentions were ''unfair''.

He said the Prime Minister had presented the draft agreement in Parliament ten months back and had said that India was working on the agreements to provide nuclear fuel supply in form of Uranium and advanced technological assistance in agriculture.

Mr Joshi alleged that despite assurances, Mr Singh had bowed down before American pressure.

''In view of the Indo-US nuclear agreement India will neither be able to protect its energy security nor atomic power,'' he said.

''We reject all restrictions imposed by America on Indian nuclear units,'' he said adding that ''India's sovereignty would be at stake when the neighbouring countries like Pakistan were enjoying nuclear power without any ban.'' Mr Joshi said, ''India will not be able to acquire the status of non-nuclear power country.'' MORE UNI RS JYN RA GC2141
