Hitachi appoints Redington as distributor

Bangalore, Apr 28 (UNI) Hitachi Global Storage Technologies today announced the appointment of Redington as an authorised distributor for Hitachi hard disk drive (HDD) products in the country.

Redington would service thousands of system integrators and resellers across India, where Hitachi aimed at significantly growing its hard drive business in 2006.

The alliance would particularly assist Hitachi in addressing B and C class cities, which the company believed was seeing the strongest growth rates in the Indian IT market, Hitachi said in a release here.

With 38 distribution offices, 44 warehouses, 1,000+ employees and 8,000 channel partners in India, Redington was well positioned to assist Hitachi consolidate its HDD presence nationwide, it said.

Redington would work alongside existing Hitachi distributors, Cyberstar Infocom and Neoteric Infomatique, to service the current and future HDD customers. In India, Hitachi's channel focus was on in-country distribution with partners who have strong local sales and support offices, direct relationships with local systems integrators and OEMs, and were committed to growing the Hitachi hard drive franchise by expanding the reseller business, the release said.

Hitachi last month became the first to offer nationwide doorstep pick-up support for HDD channel partners in India. As one of the largest distributors providing technical support services for multinational vendors in India -- some on an exclusive basis -- Redington complemented Hitachi's offering through its own established service network.
