High-level com to probe VB's affair holds its first meet
Kolkata, Apr 28 (UNI) A high-level committee, appointed by the President to probe the present state of affairs of Visva Bharati University, held its first formal meeting at Raj Bhawan here today.
The meeting was chaired by West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi, who happens to be the Rector of the University.
The meeting was attended by Dr Romila Thapar, Professor Andre Beteille, A.Vaidyanathan, Goverdhan Mehta and Amlan Dutta. Professor Asish Prasad Mitra could not attend it.
The committee discussed the broad approach to be adopted for its study and held separate discussions with historian Uma Dasgupta and the Rector's nominee university's academic council professor Rama Ranjan Mukhopadhyay.
The committee would visit Visva Bharati from June 20 to 25.
The committee is scheduled to complete its work and submit report to the President by the end of September 2006.
