Heritage walk begins in Surat
Surat Apr 28 (UNI) The Heritage walk initiated by Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) to promote its rich cultural heritage has begun today.
The Heritage walk that started from the British cemetry at 0740 hrs in the morning and concluded at the ancient residence of Poet Veer Narmad at 1030 hrs.
About 100 people participated in today's walk and dignitaries like Deputy Mayor Sushmaben Aggerwal and Municipal Commissioner Pankaj Joshi also travelled with the team.
Curator of Sardar Vallabhai Patel Museum Ms Bhamini Mahitha, one of the organisers of the Heritage walk told UNI that she had received very good response from the tourists who participated in it.
There were 10 foreign delegates including a team from Ghana and United Kingdom who are visiting Surat. SMC had arranged the service of 10 trained guides to provide information about the various sites included in the itinerary.
Ms Bhamini Mahitha told UNI that SMC had not taken any decision about how the Heritage walk should be continued in the coming days.
''We have received very good response from those who participated in the Heritage walk and certainly we would continue this programme'', said Ms Mahitha.
