Heat wave continues unabated in Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh, Apr 28 (UNI) Heat wave continued unabated in Punjab and Haryana as the temperature hovered two to seven degrees above normal at most places in the region today.

Hisar at 44 degrees celsius was the hottest place in Haryana.

Power and water shortage has been reported in the town.

Karnal with 39.2 degrees and Ambala with 40.1 degrees recorded a slight fall in temperature.

A severe heat wave lashed Punjab and the state also faced major power cuts.

Amritsar was hottest place in the state as the maximum remained unchanged at 43.0 degrees, seven degrees above normal, Ludhiana recorded 42 degrees, five degrees above normal, and Patiala 41.4 degrees, three degrees above normal.

Chandigarh and its surrounding areas are also reeling under the heat wave. The city recorded 39.6 degrees, four degrees above normal. Hot and dusty winds blew in city and surrounding areas during the day.

In Himachal Pradesh, Shimla recorded 26.6 degrees Celsius, six degrees above normal and in Bhuntar of Kullu district, it was 33.9 degrees, five degrees above normal.

The weather office has predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh and duststorm or thunderstorm with light rain at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours.

The heat wave, prevailing in many parts of Haryana and some parts of Himachal Pradesh is likely to abate during the next two days, the Met office said.
