Global Fund halts 50 million dollars AIDS help to Nigeria
GENEVA, Apr 28 (Reuters) One of Nigeria's biggest anti-AIDS donors suspended disbursement of nearly 50 million of HIV/AIDS assistance today, citing authorities' failure to meet performance targets.
The executive board of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria voted to halt payment on two grants because the country had missed targets for treatment access and other goals, spokesman Jon Liden said.
More than 3.5 million people are living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria, the third-largest number after India and South Africa.
