Former Hurriyat Chairman bereaved

Srinagar, Apr 28 :The younger brother of former moderate Hurriyat Conference Chairman Moulvi Abbas Ansari died here last night after protracted illness.

He was 60 and is survived by his wife and three sons, including Sajjad Hyder, the Editor of Kashmir Observer, an English daily from here.

Moulvi Mustaffa Hussain Ansari, a renowned Islamic scholar of Kashmir and a prominent Shia cleric, died at the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura here.

The Hurriyat leader's brother had been ailing for a long time now and was recently admitted to the cancer ward of the SKIMS for treatment.

His last prayers (Namaz-e-Jinaza) were held at their ancestral graveyard at Narwara here this morning.

Several political, social and religious organisations have condoled his death and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family.
