Excise department's gesture to children with heart disease

Hyderabad, Apr 28 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Minister for Excise, Konathala Ramakrishna today donated Rs 10 crore to Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy for the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF).

The amount would be spent to provide medical treatment for children suffering from congenital heart diseases. The amount was collected from the one per cent excise cess, an official release said.

Mr Ramakrishna said Rs 40 crore would be collected during 2006-07 towards the cess and would be diverted to CMRF.

Welcoming the gesture, the Chief Minister said the funds would provide the needed succour to helpless and poor patients.

Earlier, the Chief Minister also reviewed the performance of excise department.
