Daughter Priyanka is Sonia's election agent

Rae Bareli, Apr 28: Ms Priyanka Vadra has been appointed as the election agent of AICC President Sonia Gandhi seeking a re-election to the Lok Sabha from this seat on May 8.

Congress sources said here that Ms Vadra, daughter of the Congress chief, has already applied to be the election agent before the Returning Officer (RO).

During the 2004 general elections also, Priyanka was Ms Gandhi's election agent.

With this, while Ms Gandhi's MP son Rahul would take care of campaigning, Ms Vadra would take work on the nitty gritties of election administration. ''She would work as the official representative of Ms Gandhi and would be issued with a photo identity card...she would also appoint booth agents and counting agents,'' UP Congress chief spokesperson A P Singh told UNI here.

Meanwhile, Ms Gandhi along with her daughter would campaign for the bypoll in the first week of May.

Rahul had on Tuesday kickstarted the campaign for his mother.

''The Gandhi family shares a seasoned bond with Rae Baerli. When my grandmother late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi represented this constituency, good development was witnessed here,'' he claimed.

He listed several schemes related to roads, drinking water and employment, which were ushered in following the victory of Sonia from the segment in 2004. ''I consider myself the representative of both Amethi and Rae Bareli parliamentary constituencies,'' he observed.

The Rae Bareli bypoll was necessitated following the resignation of Sonia from the LS seat over post of profit controversy.
