Credit societies to provide Rs 100 cr to debt-ridden farmers: Gandhi
Kolhapur, Apr 27 (UNI) The Maharashtra State Credit Society Federation will provide Rs 100 crore to debt-ridden farmers in the state through their network of credit societies.
Announcing the decision at a press conference here today, Federation President Lalit Gandhi said the loans would be made available to needy farmers to enable them to come out of the debt trap of moneylenders and prevent their suicides.
This decision was taken after state Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh appealed to the credit societies to come forward to safeguard the interest of state's farmers at the recently held federation's national level meet, Mr Gandhi said.
The loan disbursement to the debt-ridden farmers would be launched in the state from May one on the auspicious day of Maharashtra day, he added.
