CPI(M) activist killed, 40 kg explosive recovered in J and K

Srinagar, Apr 28 (UNI) Militants killed a Communist Party of India (M) activist and also injured three others, including a sarpanch, while security forces arrested a Jaish ultra along with 40 kg explosives in Jammu and Kashmir overnight, official sources said.

They said militants shot at and critically wounded a CPI(M) activist Mohammad Afzal Bhat at Sandoor, Kulgam, in the south Kashmir district of Anantnag late last night. He was admitted to a hospital where he died this morning.

An official spokesman said militants shot at and critically wounded a sarpanch, Maha Wali Chouhan at bus stand Bandipora this afternoon. Two more civilians were injured in the militant firing, he said, adding the injured were admitted to hospital.

Security forces arrested a Jaish-e-Mohammad militant alongwith arms and ammunition at Mahore in Udhampur district of Jammu region last night.

People, mostly women, took to the street at Dalgate in protest against the arrest of a youth, Ajaz Ahmad, by the Special Operation Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir police last night.

The demonstrators, who also blocked traffic on the busy main road, were demanding immediate release of the youth.

Normalcy returned in the area after a senior police officer assured them that the youth would be released after proper verification.
