Cong is the only party to have worked for Bengal's dev: Sonia

Murshidabad, Apr 28(UNI) Vehemently criticising the Left Front government in West Bengal, Congress president Sonia Gandhi today said the government has failed to do anything noteworthy.

Addressing an election rally at Raghunathganj here, she said the state was now grappling with several problems like unemployment.

''Congress has won all Lok Sabha seats in Murshidabad and this proves, people are not happy with Left Front government,'' she added.

PCC chief Pranab Mukherjee and District Congress President Adhir Chowdhury, and Murshidabad MP, Mr Mannan Hossain were among others present at the meeting.

In another rally in Kaliaganj, in North Dinajpur, Mrs Gandhi asked the people to vote for the Congress as this was the only party which had worked for the state's development.

She claimed that the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme had been sucessfully implemented in the state.

She said most of the villages had been electrified under the Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyut Yojna and the rest of the villages would be done within the next three years.

The Sarva Siksha Abhijan, mid-day meal for children, had been implemented in all the schools, she said.

Mrs Gandhi said a broadgauge line would be introduced from Radhikapur(on the Bangladesh border) to Sealdah.

She claimed that the farmers under the Congress regime have got the highest price for jute for the first time.

Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Das Munshi said an international trade centre would be set up in Radhikapur.
