Coming to India is like homecoming: Kaneez Reshma

Kolkata, Apr 28: Bridging the cultural gap between the two countries through music, for Pakistani Singer Kaneez Reshma it is like homecoming, back to her roots.

Coming to India for the second time today, Ms Reshma told mediapersons here, ''India is like my own country. Two countries, people, music and cultures are similar.'' With roots in Bikaner, Reshma's forefathers migrated to erstwhile West Pakistan before independence.

Currently residing in Peshwar, Ms Reshma not only speaks Rajasthani, Punjabi and Sindhi, her casettes were also released in these languages.

Reshma is now venturing into Hindi playback singing. Her first Indian album would be released in June this year.

''I have also got offers from Adesh Srivastav and Dilip and Samir Sen,'' she added.

''I have received my first training in music from my father. But after marriage, music was no more my first choice. Taking care of my family was most important to me. That is after being a singer for last 16 years, only eight cassettes could be released,'' she said.

'' Now my sons have joined me and all of us have created a band called 'Night Visitors'. We sing in' mehfils' around the world in London, Singapore, Malayasia and Dubai,'' Ms Reshma said.
