BIS detects increase in sale of spurious drinking water

New Delhi, Apr 29: With the people becoming increasingly health conscious and tending to drink quality water, several firms have surfaced in the country selling spurious packed drinking water with fake ISI mark in the market.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has found spurious packaged drinking water being sold in Delhi under brands like' Kingfisher', 'Aqua Gold and Aqua Star' and ' Aqua Safe'.

The BIS raided the producing firms of these brands which were 'misusing' the ISI mark on the products too , a BIS release said here today.

Similarly, the BIS raided a firm, All Space Polymers(P) Ltd at Faridabad and found it was selling spurious drinking water with packages using a fake ISI mark.

In Madhya Pradesh, a firm, Jain Minerals was raided at Gwalior and found misusing the ISI mark on packaged drinking water.

In the same manner, Nirmal Beverages ,Rajkot and Swastik Beverages , Valsad both in Gujarat were found selling drinking water with fake ISI mark.

In Karnataka too, Aqua Tech Solutions was found misusing ISI marks on not-upto-the mark packed drinking water.

The BIS, in all, conducted 30 raids in various parts of the country and found spurious houshold products were being sold under fake ISI marks.

Other products included plywood, electric appliances and insulated cables.
