Advani says Indian public never tolerates corruption
Ujjain, MP, Apr 28 (UNI) Senior BJP leader L K Advani today said the Indian public had never tolerated large-scale corruption and voted out corrupt governments.
''In the 1984 general election, which followed Mr Rajiv Gandhi occupying the prime minister's post, the Congress won the highest number of seats since independence. The prime reason was (the sympathy wave created by) prime minister Indira Gandhi's assassination. Besides, Mr Rajiv was youthful,'' he said in this ancient temple town while addressing a public meeting under a blistering sun on the fourth day of his 'Bharat Suraksha Yatra' in Madhya Pradesh.
''However, a scam on the scale of Bofors took place during Mr Gandhi's tenure and he had to bow out of office in the next polls,'' Mr Advani added.
The seasoned leader said terrorism and corruption were on the upward spiral courtesy the UPA regime's erroneous policies vis-a-vis Naxalism and Bangladeshi infiltrators.
