3 fires in Delhi: 2 dead, major blaze in timber market
New Delhi, Apr 28 (UNI) Two children were killed in a fire in South West Delhi even as a major blaze swept through a timber market in East Delhi.
A two-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl were killed in the fire that started in a junk yard in Kapashera area of South West Delhi at around 1115 hrs and the fire spread to nearby shanties, Fire Brigade said.
Nine tenders fought for about two hours before the fire could be put out.
Meanwhile, a major blaze raged through a timber market in Shahdara area of East Delhi.
As many as 30 tenders had been depatched to the site, where the fire was reported at around 1445 hrs. The blaze was controlled at 1610 hrs the same evening.
There were no reports of injuries.
Earlier today, shanty dwellers in Shakarpur area of East Delhi allegedly set fire to their hutments in 'protest' against an official drive, as per the court order, to remove 'jhuggies' along the Yamuna riverbed in the national capital.
Jhuggi dwellers, after vacating bag and baggage, set fire to their empty huts at around 1130 hrs, Fire brigade said.
Fifteen tenders put out the fire in about two hours. There were no reports of injuries.
