251 men from NE attested to Indian Army
Shillong, Apr 28 (UNI) A total of 251 young men from the North-East region were sworn-in as soldiers of Indian Army soldiers at a colourful parade at the Parson Parade Ground of Assam Regimental Centre here today.
The newly attested soldiers were sworn-in by the Gita and the Bible to devote themselves to the service of the nation and to sacrifice their lives in necessity.
Lieutenant General J R Mukherjee (Retired) was present at the occasion.
He congratulated the young recruits on becoming soldiers of an elite regiment of the Indian Army, which is regarded as the Pride of the North East.
Complementing the high standard of training in the regiment, he called upon the soldiers to strive for excellence through professional competence, service and dignity.
Among the new recruits, Sep Khamied Sha H Lyngdoh emerged as the overall best recruit, while Sep Surjit Singh won the award of best recruit in drill and Sep P Henminllen grabbed the award for best recruit in military service subject. Sep Lammin Lun Gangte won the award for the best recruit in firing.
