200 antique idols seized from Ahmedabad gowdown
Ahmedabad, Apr 28 (UNI) More than 200 idols have been seized from a godown in Narol area of the city and one person has been arrested in this connection.
The statues, including some stolenidols from Jain temples, were found during a raid last evening at the gowdown. Ismail Memon, the owner, has been arrested.
Police said most of the ancient idols and statuettes are made of marble and sandstone, and were to be exported to destinations abroad.
This is the second such seizure in ten days. On April 18, Customs officials had seized 25 statues from a container depot at Sabarmati.
A case under the Antique Art and Treasure Act has been lodged against Memon, police said.
