Seventeen children taken ill

Allahabad, Apr 28 : Seventeen children were taken ill after consuming poisonous fruits last evening in Kareli area of the city here, police said today.

According to police, the children returning home after school saw a tree full of fruits. They ate some of the fruits and distributed some among other children.

The children soon started vomiting and some of them became unconscious. They were immediately rushed to private and government hospitals. Some of the children were relieved after first aid while the condition of others is still serious.

Getting the report of the incident the chief medical officer sent a team of doctors with ambulance and medicines. The local residents at first refused to take their help but later accepted it.
