UPA govt yet to decide on reservation issue
Bangalore, Apr 27 (UNI) The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre is yet to take a decision on implementing Reservation Policy in Industries, including Information Technology and Bio-Technology companies, Union Company Affairs Minister Premchand Gupta said today.
Talking to reporters here, he said, ''The Government is yet to take a view on the subject. However, it has certain social responsibilities to fulfil. There are some companies like the Tata which have voluntarily implemented reservation and taken up social activities.
Such acts are good for the industry as well as the people.'' A consensus need to be arrived on the issue before taking a final decision and the government was working in this direction and consulting all concerned, he added.
It may be recalled that NASSCOM chairman Kiran Karnik had recently urged the Centre to take industrialists into confidence and have a national debate on the issue.
NASSCOM was also trying to elicit the opinion of industries, including IT and BT, on the issue and proposed to meet official of the Union Human Resources Development Ministry.
