Temperatures rise in AP

Hyderabad, Apr 27 (UNI)The People of Andhra Pradesh were reeling under oppresive heat even as yesterday's cyclonic storm ''Mala'' over Southeast Bay of Bengal intensified into a severe cyclonic storm and moved towards the Myanmar coast today.

The cyclonic storm, which lay centered 250 km west northwest off Port Blair at 1430 hrs today, was likely to intensify further and move in a north north easterly direction towards the Myanmar coast, a Visakhapatnam report quoting a bulletin issued by Cyclone Warning centre here said, adding it would have no impact on the Indian coast.

The mercury shot up to 42.6 Deg C in the temple town of Tirupati and 40.2 Deg C in the State Capital, the Weather office here said.

Metereological Centre Director G Sudhakar Rao attributed this to winds blowing from the north-westerly direction.

Kavali had a high of 42.3 Deg C followed by Kurnool 42.1 Deg C, Nellore and Nalgonda 42.0 Deg C, Ramagundam 41.6 Deg C and Bapatla 40.5 Deg C, it said.

True to the epithet ''blazewada'', the maximum temperature in Vijayawada soared to 39.9 deg C against 39 Deg C yesterday, The maximum temperatures were above normal at a few places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema and normal over Telangana.

Mainly dry weather was likely to prevail over all the three regions of the state, the weather office added.
