Subhas again criticises EC observers for adverse comments

Kolkata, Apr 27 (UNI) West Bengal Transport Minister and CPI(M) candidate from Belgachia East constituency Subhas Chakraborty today continued his tirade against the Election Commission Observers and questioned the rationale behind the deletion of over 28,000 voters' names.

Without naming the EC Observers, Mr Chakraborty questioned their authority to allegedly describe the Belgachia East constituency as ''notorious'', and said it was a ''disgraceful'' act since vast majority of voters in the constituency were highly educated and respectable people.

''More than 100,000 electorate in my constituency are graduates and there are over 50,000 educationists and other intellectuals, who reside within this constituency,'' Mr Chakraborty said while talking to mediapersons in front of a booth in Salt Lake.

Exuding confidence of increasing his margin this time by many a times, Mr Chakraborty, considered to be staunch critic of the Election Commission, however, welcomed the huge turnout of voters at almost all the booths in his constituency.

Incidentally, the Belgachia East assembly constituency had come under a strict scanner of the EC in the wake of summary removal of two EC observers last night on the basis of the CPI(M)'s complaint against them and the subsequent appointment of six others in their place to oversee the conduct of a free and fair election in the constituency.

Mr Chakraborty, elected from the constituency for five consecutive times, won by around 5000 votes last time, defeating his ''Man-Friday'' Sujit Ghosh of the Trinamool Congress.
