SP suspended for not joining duty in naxalite area
Raipur, Apr 27 (UNI) The Chhattisgarh government has suspended a Superintendent of Police for not joining duty following his transfer to naxalite infested area in Bastar region.
An official spokesman today said Sanjay Tiwari, who was earlier posted Superintendent of Police with the State Human Rights Commission, was transferred as superintendent of Bijapur police district in South Bastar earlier this month.
As Mr Tiwari did not report for duty, the state government placed him under suspension. Mr Tiwari is an officer of the state police service.
Bijapur police district in Dantewara is a region where Communist Party of India (Maoist) cadres and its Peoples Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA) militia are very active.
During the last one year, the Maoists had stepped up violence in the region after the local tribals launched 'Salwa Judum', a campaign aimed at creating awareness among the masses and to motivate them to dissociate themselves from the naxalites.
