Rice to woo voters seized
Pondicherry, Apr 27 (UNI) Police and revenue authorities today seized 25 kilograms of rice in 65 bags meant for distribution to the voters in Ariyanakuppam constituency to lure the voters.
Distrct collector and district election officer Theva Neethi Das told a press conference that the bags with a picture of the contesting candidate was seized from the house of a political leader in Ariyankuppam.
Replying to a question he said that the election department was yet to get a full report from Yanam on a reported trouble.However, as per preliminary information, the trouble was following the seziure of illicit liquor.He denied that the Independent candidate Raksha Harikrishna was attacked and said he had only complained that he was slapped by some persons.
He said as many as 974 plastic handbags were seized from the residence of a government employee at Villianur which was to be distributed to the voters.The employee was suspended and later arrested on a complaint by the election authorities.
On the trouble at nellithoppe constituency he said both the DMk and AIADMK candidates had a meeting in his office in which they agreed to suspend the use of loud speaker to prevent any further trouble and had signed an agreement to withdraw the cases against each other through the court.
