Ravi Raises Indian Docs Problems With British Parlmt Delegation

New Delhi, Apr 27 (UNI) Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi today took up the matter of the problems currently being faced by Indian doctors and physicians in the United Kingdom when a British Parliamentary delegation called on him here.

Minister Ravi urged the British Parliamentarians to use their good offices for taking a positive view since doctors of Indian origin formed the backbone of the health-care services in Britain, an official spokesperson said.

The four-member delegation of British Parliamentary Select Committee on Home Affairs -- comprising of Rt Hon John Denham, Mr Richard Benyon, Ms Janet Dean and Mr Shahid Malik -- is currently in India to have an understanding of the issues relating to international migration and social issues concerning the Indian Diaspora.

During the meeting, Minister Ravi gave an overview of the policies and activities of the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs.

He also recalled the close cultural and ethnic ties between the people of India and Britain.

Britain's Deputy High Commissioner here Mark Runacres accompanied the delegation.
