Rajkhowa Commission not following rules: HRA
Imphal, Apr 27 : The Human Rights Alert (HRA), an NGO, has alleged that the Rajkhowa commission which is inquiring into the alleged rape charges on 21 women by suspected militants at Churachandpur in Manipur, was ignoring some procedure.
HRA's executive director Babloo had sought permission to allow two lawyers to accompany the commission to Churachandpur to assist in ascertaining the facts of the incident.
Although the commission and the state chief secretary earlier okayed such proposal but the commission left for Churachanpdur in a helicopter on 20 April without public notice and without informing the petitioner, it was alleged.
As per section 8 of the commissions of inquiry' act, 1952, the present commission is obliged to formulate a procedure to regulate the proceeding of the commission and the parties who have filed affidavits should be informed of the same it was reminded.
