Pondy Congress president begins election campaign

Pondicherry, Apr 27 (UNI) Pondicherry pradesh Congress Committee President P Shanmugham today kicked off his election campaign at Kurusukuppam in Cassicade constiteuncy here.

Mr Shanmugham, visited went to every household, seeking mandate for the Congress candidate G Ravichandran, later addressed the people and said the Congress could only provide a stable Government.

He said if the opposition parties were voted to power, the government would not be stable, since they would be involved in fighting with each other for power, leading to the collapse of the government, whereas Congress was solely concerned about the welfare of the people.

In an apparent reference to P Kannan and K Lakshminarayanan, Mr Shanmugham said the people who held the constituency on earlier occasions, were ministers too. But, they failed to do anything worthwhile for the constituency.

He also cautioned the people not to be lured by the tall promises made by the opposition parties, which would never be fullfilled.
