Police deny raid on IG's residence

Raipur, Apr 27 (UNI) Chhattisgarh Police today denied having raided the residence of the Inspector-General (Bastar Range) and clarified that a sentry, residing in barracks, was booked with cash allegedly looted from trader a few days back.

''There was no raid at Mr M W Ansari's place,'' said a police headquarters spokesman.

Reacting to media reports about the 'raid' and recovery of Rs 2 lakh, the spokesman clarified that Head Constable Rajendra was arrested.

Meanwhile, police said in Bastar that the constable's involvement came to light during investigation into looting at Tokapal, about 20 km from Jagdalpur, on April 17. Superintendent of Police G P Singh informed Mr Ansari, who summoned the constable and handed him over to police.

Mr Ansari was not available for comment as he was away in naxalism-affected Bijapur area of South Bastar.
